Configuring Custom Languages with Language Codes

Updated over a week ago

Overview

The Custom Language feature allows you to assign a unique Language Code to each additional language in your store. The system automatically detects the buyer’s store language and displays the corresponding localized content, providing a seamless shopping experience.

Matching Rules

Content will be displayed when the store language code matches the assigned

Language Code.

Example:
If a language code is set to th, the system will detect a store language of th and display content in Thai.

Guidelines for Selecting a Language Code

  • When creating a new language, the dropdown initially shows “Select a language code”.

  • A language code is required; leaving it blank will trigger a prompt.

  • Each code must be unique within the store. Already-used codes will not appear in the dropdown.

  • Selecting a duplicate code will prevent saving, and a message will indicate the code is already in use.

Important Notes

  • Only languages supported by Shopify can be used: Shopify Language Codes

  • Each language code must be unique and can only be selected once.

  • After setup, the system automatically displays content based on your customers’ store language.
